Harbin
Engineering University (HEU) is located near the Coast
of Songhua River in Harbin, a famous city with beautiful
scenery in Northeast China.
HEU is China’s only national
“key” university that combines an engineering focus
with the science, management, and arts of the shipping
industry. With a very strong technical reserve in many
research areas on ship engineering and naval engineering,
the university has become an important base for scientific
research in the areas of national defense, sea and ocean
development, and nuclear power application.
HEU has had the honor of being
listed in the national “211 project ” since the initiation
of the project. HEU is among only 55 key universities
in China that have a graduate school and 43 key universities
that have a “National Science Park”.
The HEU campus covers an area
of 1.25 million square meters with a construction area
of about 850,000 square meters. The university has 17
colleges or departments and one graduate school. In
1981, HEU became one of the few universities that had
the authority to award Master and Doctoral Degrees.
Now there are 9 post-doctoral mobile research stations,
27 disciplines conferring doctoral degrees, 76 disciplines
conferring master’s degrees (including MBA), and 51
specialties for undergraduates. The teaching and administrative
staff numbers almost 2,300, including 3 academicians
of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and one academician
of the Chinese Academy of Science. HEU has 185 tutors
for doctoral students, more than 800 professors and
associate professors, and 25,000 students, with the
graduate school edging to 6,000 students.
HEU puts emphasis on the development
of international cooperation and academic exchange.
It has made extensive exchange and cooperation efforts
with more than 60 influential university and scientific
research institutions in 15 countries, such as the United
States, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and Russia. They
exchange visiting scholars and professors, give lectures
and conduct joint studies. All of this helps to expand
HEU’s influence in the world, promote its teaching,
and improve the scientific research level.
We warmly welcome foreign friends
from all over the world to Harbin Engineering University
for studying and academic exchanges.
