I. Eligible Recipients

The Harbin Engineering University (HEU) Scholarship is established to financially support outstanding international students who come to the University to pursue:

Degree programs (bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral – “degree students”), and

Non-degree programs (visiting student/scholar programs, “visiting students/scholars”).

II. Scholarship Categories

A. Excellent Student Scholarship

Open to newly-admitted degree students, intercollegiate exchange students, visiting students/scholars who will major in a specific discipline at HEU.

Degree students: The scholarship covers the full standard length of the program.

Visiting students/scholars: The scholarship duration is limited to twelve months.

Bachelor’s level

(1) First-class: covers full tuition fee, and living allowance RMB 1,500/month;

(2) Second-class: covers full tuition fee;

(3) Third-class: covers 50% of tuition fee.

Master’s level

(1) First-class: covers full tuition fee, and living allowance RMB 2,000/month;

(2) Second-class: covers full tuition fee;

(3) Third-class: covers 50% of tuition fee.

Doctoral level

(1) First-class: covers full tuition fee, and living allowance RMB 3,000/month;

(2) Second-class: covers full tuition fee;

(3) Third-class: covers 50% of tuition fee.

Visiting-student/scholar level

Covers full tuition fee.

Visiting students: tuition fee charged at master’s rate;

Visiting scholars: tuition fee charged at doctoral rate;

Duration ≤ 12 months.

(Tuition fees for degree and non-degree students shall be based on HEU’s rates for the current year.)

B. Talent-based Scholarship

A one-time award of RMB 5,000 granted to first-year bachelor’s candidates who:

possess high Chinese-language proficiency or outstanding cultural/sports achievements,

have strong overall competence, and

have NOT received any Chinese government, enterprise or other institutional scholarship.

III. Application Requirements

A. Scholarship for Degree Students

Be friendly toward China and respect Chinese customs;

Demonstrate good moral character, be physically and mentally healthy, and have no criminal record;

Have excellent academic achievements and effective communication skills;

Postgraduate applicants must demonstrate solid academic and research potential;

Age limits:

Bachelor’s candidates: normally ≤ 25

Master’s candidates: normally ≤ 35

Doctoral candidates: normally ≤ 40

B. Scholarship for Visiting Students/Scholars

Be friendly toward China and respect Chinese customs;

Demonstrate good moral character, be physically and mentally healthy, and have no criminal record;

Academic background or research field of the applicant matches the host college/supervisor;

The applicant must meet the needs of HEU’s international cooperation initiatives and be officially recommended by an institution;

Age limits:

Visiting students: normally ≤ 40

Visiting scholars: normally ≤ 45

Note: Talent-based Scholarship does not require an application. Other detailed requirements for the Excellent Student Scholarship are subject to the annual application guideline published by HEU.
